Workouts and Rewards

While searching the internet the other day, I came across a great site to help motivate for fitness. Shape Magazine has a virtual trainer that will provide you with exercises customized to your preferences, style of working out and level of fitness. The best part about it, is that it is free!

If you are looking to add exercise into your program, this is a great tool to sign up for.

On the recipe front, with Halloween coming up tomorrow, cookies, candies and all sorts of goodies will be front and centre. One favourite around our place is Old Fashioned Popcorn balls - a recipe that has been in our family for years. This low fat recipe is easy to make and better to eat!

Old Fashioned Popcorn Balls

Ingredients
24 cups air popped popcorn with unpopped kernels removed
1 bag regular or mini marshmallows
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar - firmly packed

Equipment needed
Hot air popcorn popper
Saucepan
Large bowl or roaster for mixing
Baking sheet
Wax paper
Wooden spoon or spatula
Small amount of butter or cooking spray for greasing hands
Plastic wrap - optional

1. Put popcorn in a large bowl or roaster and set aside.
2. Melt butter in a saucepan over low to medium heat.
3. Lower heat to low and add in brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Approximately 2-3 minutes
4. Add marshmallows to mixture. Stir constantly so marshmallows do not burn.

5. Once marshmallows are melted and blended, pour mixture over popcorn.
6. Mix well with a wooden spoon or spatula. Let cool slightly until you can handle it comfortably.
7. Line baking sheet with waxed paper and lightly grease.
8. Grease hands with butter or cooking spray and form popcorn into balls.
9. Let balls cool on baking sheet for about an hour.
10. Wrap in plastic wrap and decorate to give as gifts or serve as treats.

Nike + Human Race

If you are a runner, the Nike + Human Race is a great event to do. It can be done anywhere in the world and at any time on the specific day. The next one is on Saturday, October 24th. Check out the Nike + site and join in. I know I will be checking it out. Although I can't run it due to a bad knee this time around, I will be sure to catch the next one.

If you do run it, let me know your time so I can congratulate you for a job well done!

Here is the link:  Nike + Human Race - The Day the World Runs

Have a great run and a great weekend.

Welcome

Everywhere we look today, people are worried about food - fat intake, sodium, trans fats, sugar, additives & preservatives - the list goes on. But what it really boils down to is whether or not your recipes make you fat or are making you fat!

Lets face it, you can exercise all you want and not lose a pound. Conversely, you can pick away at your food and watch every morsel that enters your mouth and gain weight. There has to be a balance between what you eat and getting proper exercise.

I'll try to help with different recipes I have found that will help cut out the bad stuff, keep the good stuff and still taste fabulous. I will provide exercise tips and advice to keep you motivated in your daily exercise routine.

We work hard in our careers and daily lives. Let me help you eat well, enjoy exercise and have a little fun while doing it!

Enjoy.
